Syksyllä 2009 aloin kuvata iäkästä isääni, tavoitteenani tallentaa vanhuuden haurautta ja sen mukanaan tuomaa muutosta takaisin lapsen kaltaiseksi. Elämän iltapuolella niin sanotaan usein käyvän.
Helmikuussa 2010 isäni kuoli yllättäen. Kuoleman kohtaaminen ja sitä seuraava aika asetti kuvasarjani uuteen valoon. En voinut tietää, että kuolema olisi jo odottamassa, ihan lähellä.
Isäni Martti oli herkkä, rohkea, epäsovinnainen mies. Sen hän osoitti myös suostumalla kuvattavakseni.
Sarjani Tulee Hiljaisuus käsittelee vanhuutta, kuolemaa ja hiljaista luopumista.

On October 2009 I began to photograph my elderly father, aspiring to capture the fragility of old age, and the change back to the childlike state it brings with it. This has been told to happen often towards the end of life.
In February 2010 my father abruptly died. Seeing death face to face and the time after that made me see my work in a new light. I could not know that death had already been waiting. So close.
My father Martti was a sensitive, corageous and unorthodox man. One way of showing this was by agreeing to be photographed by me.
The seriesTowards the Silence deals with old age, death and letting go.
